Raising awareness of the National Redress Scheme

Department of Social Services
The National Redress Scheme (the Scheme) was established as one of the key measures recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The Scheme provides support to people who have experienced institutional sexual abuse, who can apply for redress and access free, confidential emotional support and legal and financial counselling.

Fenton Communications was appointed by the Australian Government Department of Social Services to deliver communications to support greater awareness of the Scheme among eligible survivors.

The sensitive nature of this project required a collaborative, flexible, innovative and trauma-informed approach with a focus on creating accessible materials suitable for vulnerable target audiences.

Project delivery included:

  • An overarching content distribution strategy with key messages, stakeholder mapping, email marketing and approach to engagement.
  • A specialist strategy and resources to reach people with disability, carers and disability stakeholder organisations.
  • Production of new communication materials including a discussion guide, brochures, flip book, wallet sized information card, poster, social media assets, short animations, and case studies in written, video and audio formats.
  • A stakeholder kit featuring new resources for frontline services, health professionals and support services and advice on how to use them to leverage stakeholders as conduits and trusted sources of information about the Scheme.
  • A social media strategy and moderation guide was developed. Content was also provided to stakeholders to deliver on their own social channels.
